New Delhi, Sahitya Akademi on Saturday honored English writer K. Announced the names of 23 writers, including Vaishali and Hindi writer Gaurav Pandey, who will receive the prestigious youth award in multiple languages.

The National Academy of Letters also announced the names of 24 winners of the Children's Literature Awards 2024.

The winner of the Youth Award in Sanskrit will be announced later, the academy said in a statement.

"The Executive Board of the Sahitya Akademi, in its meeting held today under the chairmanship of its Chairman, Shri Madhav Kaushik, approved the selection of 23 writers, who were selected on the basis of recommendations made by a jury consisting of three members each from the respective language. The rules and procedure laid down for this purpose were included,” the literary body said in a statement.While K Vaishali will be honored for her memoir "Homeless: Growing Up Lesbian and Dyslexic in India", Gaurav Pandey won the prestigious award for his poetry collection "Smriti Ke Beech Ghiri Hai Prithvi".

The Yuva Puraskar is given for 10 poetry books, seven collections of short stories, two collections of articles and one essay, one novel, one book of ghazals and one memoir.

Other winners of the youth award are Nayanjyoti Sarma (Assamese), Sutapa Chakraborty (Bengali), Self Made Rani Baro (Bodo) and Heena Choudhary (Dogri).

Rinku Rathore (Gujarati), Shruti B R (Kannada), Mohammed Ashraf Zia (Kashmiri), Advait Salgaonkar (Konkani), Rinki Jha Rishika (Maithili), and Shyamkrishnan R (Malayalam) are also among the winners.

Waikhom Chingkhinganba (Manipuri), Devidas Saudagar (Marathi), Suraj Chapagain (Nepali), Sanjay Kumar Panda (Oriya), Randhir (Punjabi), Sonali Sutar (Rajasthani) have also been selected for the youth award.Other winners are Anjan Karmakar (Santali), Geeta Pradeep Rupani (Sindhi), Lokesh Raghuraman (Tamil), Ramesh Karthik Nayak (Telugu) and Javed Ambar Misbahi (Urdu).

The youth award winners will receive a casket containing an engraved copper plaque and a check of Rs 50,000 at an awards ceremony later.

For the Children's Literature Award, the Academy has selected English writer Nandini Sengupta for her historical novel "The Blue Horse and Other Amazing Animal Stories from Indian History" and Devendra Kumar's children's story collection "51 Children's Stories".

The Children's Sahitya Award is given for seven novels, six books of poetry, four stories, five short stories, one play and one historical fiction.

The winners of the Children's Literature Award are Ranju Hazarika (Assamese), Dipanvita Roy (Bengali), Birgin Jekova Machahari (Bodo), Bishan Singh 'Dardi' (Dogri), Gira Pinakin Bhatt (Gujarati) and Krishnamurthy Billigere (Kannada).Muzaffar Hussain Dilbar (Kashmiri), Harsh Sadhguru Shetty (Konkani), Narayangi (Maithili), Unni Ammayambalam (Malayalam), Kshetrimayun Subdani (Manipuri), Bharat Sasane (Marathi), Basant Thapa (Nepali) and Manas Ranjan Samal (Oriya). .
