BANGKOK: India's Sachin Siwach (57kg) and Sanjeet Kumar (92kg) took another step towards Paris Olympics qualification as they delivered spectacular victories over their respective opponents to reach the next round of the Boxing World Qualifiers here on Thursday. Recorded victory.

Sachin opened for India with a 5-0 win against Olympian Batuhan Siftasi of Turkey in the pre-quarterfinal round and Sanjeet defeated Venezuela's Luis Sanchez by the same margin in the round of 32.

Only three boxers will make the cut for the Paris Olympics in the 57kg category, so Sachin will have to win two more bouts to make the cut, while Sanjeet, who got a bye in the round of 64, will be aiming for the same in all four semi-finals. Finalists will qualify in their weight category.

Against an experienced boxer, Sachin went all out in Round 1 and that strategy worked wonders for the Indian as he immediately took control of the bout.

He also earned a unanimous decision in round 2 and although Siftsee tried to make a comeback in the third and final round, the Indian was too comfortable in the end.

The 92kg clash between Sanjeet and Sanchez followed the same pattern as the 2020 Asian Championships gold medalist did not let his Venezuelan opponent through in Round 1.

Sanchez showed some flashes in Rounds 2 and 3 but the experienced Sanjeet kept his distance and won easily with his punches on counter attacks.

Later in the day, 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medalist Amit Panghal will take on Mexico's Mauricio Ruiz in a 51kg second-round clash, while Jasmine will take on Azerbaijan's Mahsati Hamzayeva in the women's 57kg category.
