New Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on being awarded Russia's highest civilian award and said it is a proud honor for India.

He said the award is a testament to the formidable stature achieved by the country globally under Modi's leadership.

Shah also said that the new award adds to the list of global accolades earned by the Prime Minister in the last 10 years not only adds to the pride of every Indian but also immortalizes the India-Russia friendship.

"Congratulations to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji on being awarded Russia's highest civilian award, the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle, today. It is a proud honor for the nation, which is a testament to the formidable stature achieved by India." Global arena under the leadership of Modiji,” Shah wrote in X.

Modi was on Tuesday officially honored with the 'Order of St Andrew the Apostle' award by Russian President Vladimir Putin for his contribution in promoting bilateral relations between the two countries.

President Putin presented the award to Prime Minister Modi at a special ceremony in the Kremlin's St. Andrew Hall.

This award was announced in 2019. Prime Minister Modi is the first Indian leader to be honored with the award, which was established in 1698 by Tsar Peter the Great in honor of St. Andrew, the first apostle of Jesus and the patron saint of Russia.
