The minister said the government is also creating a conducive ecosystem for the growth of this sector where skills and education go hand in hand.

Launching the 'Swiggy Skills' initiative during an event in the national capital, Chaudhary said public-private partnerships can accelerate and create new avenues for the workforce in the sector.

"There are huge opportunities in this space and we want more companies to interact with us," the minister added.

Online food delivery platform Swiggy and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) have collaborated to provide training and employment opportunities within its food delivery and fast commerce network.

According to Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the partnership will increase the economic contribution of the retail and supply chain logistics sector, while creating training, upskilling and reskilling opportunities for the workforce.

Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy Food Marketplace, said India's retail and food and beverage sectors are expanding rapidly, contributing around 13 per cent to the overall GDP and generating significant employment.

"As digitalization accelerates growth in these sectors, there is an urgent need for skilled labor across the value chain," he added.

'Swiggy Skills' plans to integrate with MSDE's Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) across all partner apps, enabling nearly 2.4 lakh delivery partners and staff of two lakh partner restaurants to easily access training courses. online skills development, offline certifications and training modules.

“In Swiggy Instamart operations, we will be able to hire 3,000 people across the country. We have also planned to provide training and internships to 200 people trained by MSDE, in our fast trading operations at higher level,” informed Kapoor.
