Jolaibari (Tripura) [India], Tripura Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushant Choudhary has said that more than two lakh metric tonnes of paddy has been procured so far from farmers at the minimum support price (MSP) with an estimated expenditure of Rs 382. Crore since 2018 when BJP government was formed in the state.

Sushant Chaudhary made this comment during the launch of the paddy procurement drive at Jolaibari in South Tripura district on Saturday and said that the target for this year is 15,000 metric tonnes.

During his address, Chaudhary also urged farmers to wait for the government procurement campaign to get good prices.

He said, "Last year our target was 50,000 metric tonnes but we could not achieve our target even though the total production of paddy was more than the paddy purchased from the farmers. When we found out about it, we came to know that the government is not able to reach the target. Before reaching, some middlemen buy paddy from farmers at lower rates, as a department, we have to follow some rules, but I want to urge the farmers to wait for the annual campaign of the state government to buy paddy. Do it.So that they can get a good price.”

Criticizing the previous Left government for exploiting farmers, Choudhary said, "The party which ruled the state for 25 years exploited farmers only by directing them to participate in party programmes. They raised the slogan of paddy procurement at MSP. Applied but did nothing." Help the farmers.”

He further said, "The central government had asked the state government to purchase paddy directly from the farmers, which would be compensated later but the previous government did not make any effort. When the first BJP government was formed in 2018, the proposal to purchase paddy was approved. It was given." In the first cabinet.,

Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath, who was present at the procurement campaign, talked about various schemes and policies launched by the Tripura government to increase the income of farmers.

Nath said, “Our vision is not limited to paddy only. Various crops that help farmers get more profits are being cultivated in different parts of the state. Not only this, there is market integration with national and international markets. "Relations are also being established."

Giving information about the cultivation of various crops, Nath said, “We have expanded pineapple cultivation to more than 5,000 hectares. We are also setting up new plantations of jackfruit on 450 hectares of land, lemon on 6,200 hectares, arecanut on 4,222 hectares etc. “We have exported more than 12,000 metric tonnes of pineapple outside the state, out of which 33 metric tonnes went abroad."
