New Delhi: The Center on Thursday told the Supreme Court that the decision to grant grace marks to 1,563 NEET-UG, 2024 candidates for admission to MBBS, BDS and other courses has been canceled and they will be given the option to re-appear in the exam. Trial on 23 June.

The vacation bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta was told by counsel for the Center and the National Testing Agency (NTA) that students who were given grace marks will be given the option to re-appear in the exam.

The court said that it will not stop the counseling process for admission.

If candidates out of 1,563 do not wish to re-appear, their earlier marks, without grace marks, will be given for the purposes of results.

The Center said the results of the re-examination will be declared on June 30 and counseling for admission to MBBS, BDS, other courses will begin from July 6.Taking note of the pleas, the bench said all the petitions, including the one filed by Alakh Pandey, chief executive of edtech firm Physics Wala, on the issue of granting grace marks will be heard on July 8.

These also include petitions demanding cancellation of NEET-UG, 2024 due to allegations of question paper leak and other malpractices.

The exam was conducted by NTA on May 5 across 4,750 centers and around 24 lakh candidates appeared for it. The results were expected to be declared on 14 June, but were declared on 4 June, as the evaluation of answer sheets was already completed.

Allegations such as question paper leak and granting of grace marks to over 1,500 medical aspirants have led to protests and cases filed in seven high courts and the Supreme Court.Unprecedented in the history of NTA, 67 students scored full 720 marks, including the names of six from a center in Faridabad, Haryana, in the list, raising suspicions of irregularities.

Hundreds of students protested in Delhi on 10 June demanding an investigation into alleged irregularities. It has been alleged that Grace Marks contributed to 67 students sharing the top rank.

NEET-UG exam is conducted by NTA for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country.
