New York: India's eight-wicket win over Ireland in the T20 World Cup opener turned sour when captain Rohit Sharma walked off the field after being hit in the upper arm by fast bowler Josh Little on Wednesday.

Before retiring hurt, Rohit had scored 52 runs in 37 balls with the help of four fours and three sixes, giving India a perfect launching pad to chase the modest target of 97 runs.

Rohit got injured in his upper arm on the second ball of the ninth over and after the last ball of the 10th over, he left the field along with the physio of the Indian team.

Details about his injury are awaited as there was a lot of bounce from the pitch.

Later, Rishabh Pant also suffered an elbow injury on the first ball of the 11th over, which was once again bowled by Josh Little. He required some treatment from the physio but the left-hander continued batting and finished the match with a six.
