KOHIMA: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has directed the state Advocate General to personally intervene in the case involving 45 Naga youth who were allegedly falsely implicated in a call center scam in Punjab's Mohali.

The youth were among 155 people arrested during a Punjab Police operation in May that busted two fake call centers in Mohali.

A government statement on Saturday said Rio discussed the detention of youth from the state with Nagaland Advocate General KN Balagopal in New Delhi.

Rio asked Balagopal to take immediate steps for the release of the "innocent" Naga youth.

The CM has also tasked the Resident Commissioner of Nagaland House in New Delhi to maintain contact with the families of the detained youth and provide necessary assistance.

Meanwhile, newly elected Lok Sabha MP from the state S Suphongmeren Jamir expressed concern over the situation and urged the authorities concerned to address the plight of the detainees from Nagaland.

Punjab Police had earlier said that employees of fake call centers were caught for allegedly duping people in the US.
