Los Angeles: The trailer of Ridley Scott's upcoming directorial venture "Gladiator 2", the sequel to his 2000 hit film, was released on Tuesday.

Paul Mescal plays the adult Lucius, who was portrayed by Spencer Treat Clark in the original film. The story follows Lucius who lives in the North African region of Numidia where he was previously sent by his mother Lucilla to live away. Reach of the Roman Empire. However, ongoing events forced him to return to Rome as a gladiator.

The story takes place two decades after the events of the Russell Crowe-led film.

Mescal, 28, said he is excited about the project.

The sequel comes 24 years after the release of the first film "Gladiator," which starred Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Spencer Treat Clark and Oliver Reed. It was directed by Scott and released on 1 September 2000.

The film was a massive success and won five Oscars out of 11 nominations. In addition to the Academy Awards, "Gladiator" won several BAFTA Awards and two Golden Globes.

Ahead of the trailer release, Paramount Pictures shared the first poster of the film on Monday. The film will be released on November 15 in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages.

It also stars Pedro Pascal and Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Lior Raz, Derek Jacobi, Nielsen and Denzel Washington, along with Mescal.
