The official handle of the FIFA World Cup posted a tribute to Chhetri that included the iconic photo of him standing with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo on the podium, symbolizing the top three active international goal scorers.

The photo was captioned, "Retiring as a legend".

The 39-year-old played his 150th match for his country against Afghanistan last month. He has scored 94 goals so far in his international career and fans will be hoping that he finds the back of the net at least once in the blue Tiger jersey during the game against Kuwait at the Salt Lake Stadium.

The official account of the FIFA World Cup also posted a video of Chhetri's previous interview in which he talked about the comparisons between himself, Messi and Ronaldo.
