New Delhi: Retail prices of tomatoes in Delhi have increased to around Rs 70-80 per kg due to short supply due to recent heat conditions.

Mother Dairy, a leading supplier of fruits and vegetables in Delhi-NCR, is selling tomatoes at Rs 75 per kg through its retail 'Safal' stores. Local sellers are selling at Rs 70-80 per kg.

A Mother Dairy spokesperson said on Friday, "The recent heat conditions in the major tomato growing areas in the hilly regions of the North have affected the production of the crop, resulting in supply disruptions in retail markets and subsequently in prices. There have been ups and downs.”

Online marketplaces Otipy and Blinkit are selling tomatoes at Rs 80 per kg. Local sellers attributed the high retail prices to a sharp rise in wholesale tomato prices by Rs 50-60 per kg.

However, according to data compiled by the Consumer Affairs Department, retail prices of tomatoes in Delhi are at Rs 55 per kg.

The all India average price of tomato on Friday is Rs 58.25 per kg, while the model rate is Rs 50 per kg. The maximum and minimum prices of tomatoes are Rs 130 per kg and Rs 20 per kg respectively.

Apart from tomato, all-India average retail prices of potato and onion stood at Rs 35.34 per kg and Rs 43.01 per kg, respectively.
