Chennai: A sessions court on Tuesday extended the remand of former Tamil Nadu minister Senthil Balaji till June 4.

The DMK leader was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on June 14, 2023 in a money laundering case.

Principal Sessions Judge S Alli, before whom Senthil Balaji was produced by the prosecution through video-conferencing from the Central Puzhal jail here, extended his judicial custody till June 4.

Fixing the case for next hearing on June 4, the judge directed the ED to file a counter affidavit in response to the petition filed by Senthil Balaji, seeking adjournment of the proceedings in the case until That the bank does not produce the original counterfoil/challan. I am depositing in his account and I am depositing in his wife's account.

In his plea, Balaji said that it is necessary for this court to verify the genuineness and compel the banker to submit the original files. Therefore, production of the original foil/challan was appropriate and necessary in the interest of justice, he said.

Balaji was arrested by the ED on June 14, 2023, in a money laundering case related to the cash-for-jobs scam when he was the transport minister during the erstwhile AIADMK regime.
