New Delhi [India], Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday reviewed the impact of Cyclone Ramal, which left three dozen people dead and affected more than two lakh people in the northeastern states due to floods, heavy rains and landslides.

In a press release by the Prime Minister's Office, Narendra Modi was briefed about the impact of the cyclone on the affected states during the meeting.

"The loss of human lives and damage caused to houses and properties due to landslides and floods in Mizoram, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura were also discussed. NDRF teams have been deployed as per the needs. The teams have carried out evacuation, airlifting and Road clearing work,” the press release said.During the meeting it was told that the Home Ministry is in regular touch with the state governments.

Assuring Central assistance to the affected states, the Prime Minister said that the Government of India will continue to provide full support to the cyclone-affected states. "The Prime Minister also directed the Home Ministry to monitor the situation and review the matter regularly to provide necessary assistance for restoration," the press release said.

The meeting was also attended by Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Cabinet Secretary, Home Secretary, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Director General of NDRF and Member Secretary of NDMA along with other senior officials of the PMO and line ministries.

According to government sources, PM Modi will also hold a few more meetings on various subjects, including a brainstorming session to review the agenda for the first 100 days of the new government.He will hold a meeting to review the preparations to celebrate World Environment Day (June 5) on a large scale. He will hold a long brainstorming session to review the agenda of the new government's 100-day program after exit polls predicted a massive victory for the BJP.

Parts of the Northeast have been isolated due to incessant rains and landslides, leaving railway tracks submerged in flood waters. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has canceled express, passenger and goods trains to South Assam, Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram from Tuesday due to waterlogging on railway tracks across the region.

PM Modi earlier expressed grief over the situation in the northeastern states amid natural disasters after Cyclone Ramal and assured all possible assistance. He said the Center is continuously monitoring the situation and officials are working on the ground to assist the affected people.
