Mumbai: Arif Abubakar Shaikh alias Bhaijaan, brother-in-law of fugitive gangster Chhota Shakeel and accused in a terror funding case, died at the government-run JJ Hospital here on Friday evening, police said.

Businessman Sheikh (61) was arrested by the National Investigation Agency in the case in which several members of the Dawood gang, including Dawood Ibrahim and Shakeel, were involved.

A police officer said Sheikh was lodged in Arthur Road jail here after his arrest and was currently undergoing treatment at JJ Hospital.

In July 2023, his property in Mira Road area of ​​neighboring Thane district was attached by the NIA as terrorism proceeds.
