Speaking to The Assam Tribune, PM Modi also highlighted the ongoing relief and rehabilitation work in conflict-torn Manipur and said that several remedial measures are being taken to ensure peace in the region.

“The process of relief and rehabilitation is ongoing. The remedial measures include a financial package for relief and rehabilitation of people living in shelter camps in the state,” the PM told the daily.

The Prime Minister's comments on Manipur come amid renewed attack from the opposition over the Centre's alleged silence on the crisis-hit region.

Giving a clear reply to the opposition's allegations, PM Modi told the daily that he has already spoken about this in Parliament and the government has deployed its best resources and administrative machinery to resolve the conflict.

He further told the daily: “The Home Minister stayed in Manipur when the conflict was at its peak, he held more than 15 meetings with various stakeholders to resolve the conflict. As per the requirement of the state government, the central government is continuously supporting it.

The horrific incident in Manipur in May 2002 had drawn national attention and was followed by violence between two tribes in the state, leading to demands for the dismissal of the Biren Singh government. After a video of two women walking naked on the streets went viral on May 4, 2023, the opposition party launched a scathing attack on the Center for remaining silent on the issue and not dismissing Biren Singh's government.
