Re-polling began at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm. Of the two booths where re-polling was taking place, one of the seven booths of Barasat Lok Sabha constituency is booth number 61 of Deganga assembly constituency.

The second such booth is number 26 under Kakdweep assembly constituency, which is one of the seven under Mathurapur Lok Sabha seat.

The seventh and final phase of voting took place in both Mathurapur and Barasat on June 1, which was marred by reports of violence from different parts of the state from beginning to end.

The BJP on Sunday sought re-polling in 412 constituencies, of which 400 are in Diamond Harbor and 12 in Mathurapur. However, ultimately the ECI decided to conduct re-polling only at two booths, neither of which are under the Diamond Harbor constituency.

However, opposition parties have expressed dissatisfaction over the Commission's decision to order repoll at only two booths and at none in Diamond Harbour, where election-related tension and violence was highest on polling day.

The main contestant in Diamond Harbor is Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. His nearest rivals are BJP's Abhijit Das and CPI(M)'s Pratik Ur Rehman.
