New Delhi [India], The Central Government has appointed T Rabi Shankar as the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India for one year with effect from May 03, 2024. Shankar was appointed deputy governor in May 2021 following the retirement of BP Kanungo. Before his role as DG, Shankar was one of the executive directors of the RBI. His areas of expertise include exchange rate management, reserve portfolio management, public debt management, monetary operations and development regulation and monitoring of financial markets, payment systems and infrastructure. Shankar served as an IMF advisor from 2005–11 on the development of government bond markets and debt management. He represented the RBI on various expert committees and working groups as well as at international forums such as the Bank for International Settlements.
