New Delhi: The BJP on Tuesday appointed former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and its national general secretary Tarun Chugh as central observers for the meeting of its Arunachal Pradesh MLAs to elect the state's next chief minister.

The party said in a statement that the two leaders will monitor the meeting where MLAs will elect their leader, the new CM.

He is likely to go to Itanagar on Wednesday.

BJP has returned to power by winning 46 seats in the 60-member assembly of the north-eastern state.

Sources said current Chief Minister Pema Khandu may retain his post.
