Agartala (Tripura) [India], Tripura Fisheries Minister Sudhangshu Das on Thursday said special teams have been formed to raid fish markets and collect samples to monitor the use of formalin.

Speaking exclusively to ANI, Sudhangshu Das also said that efforts are being made to stop the use of formalin in the state.

"We are conducting random testing of samples collected from various fish markets. We have also formed a panel to investigate the issue. They visited almost all the major markets and collected samples. We are very satisfied with the findings, As in many major markets such complaints are very rare in the markets.We are trying to ensure that the use of formalin is completely stopped in the state.

The Fisheries Minister also informed that the Central Government has sanctioned Rs 43 crore to convert a large water body into a fish production facility.

"We have submitted a proposal to the Central Government seeking funds to convert unused water bodies into fisheries. Our first project is located in Unakoti district of Tripura. The Center has released Rs 43 crore for the project in the initial phase. Have done.We hope that a major contribution to the total fish production of the state will come from this place,” Das said.

The minister was speaking to ANI after chairing a high-level review meeting of the Fisheries Department in Agartala.

"During the meeting, I have directed all district-level officers to identify at least one untapped water body in their area, which can be brought under fisheries projects.
