Ranchi, To celebrate the 10th International Yoga Day observed every year on June 21, a special yoga meditation session was organized at the Yogoda Satsang Society of India (YSS) Ashram here on Sunday.

More than 450 people, including many first-time visitors, attended the special event at the ashram, where the basics of yoga meditation were introduced.

Speaking on the topic “Finding Balance and Peace through Yoga-Meditation”, senior YSS Sanyasi Swami Ishwarananda Giri encouraged truth-seekers to find the inner peace that exists within every individual.

Offering the newcomers a taste of peace, Giri led them in a guided meditation session that included practicing correct posture, introductory breathing exercises, an affirmation, and visualization.

The International Yoga Day event began with the introduction of Paramahansa Yogananda, the founder of YSS and known as the Father of Yoga in the West.

Known for his acclaimed book 'Autobiography of a Yogi', Yogananda's followers include notable personalities like entrepreneur Steve Jobs, cricketer Ravi Shastri and actor Rajinikanth.

Established in 1917, YSS is known not only for spreading spiritual lessons but also for its social services.

In 2014, the United Nations declared 21 June as International Yoga Day.
