This 143 km long section is an important section in the Asansol division of ER between Howrah and Patna. 74 mail/express and 39 goods trains pass through this route daily.

“The increased speed will ensure punctuality in train operations within the Asansol division. It will also increase the overall line capacity, making train movements smoother and more efficient. While Vande Bharat trains will save eight minutes, other trains like Rajdhani, Duronto and Purva Express with LHB coaches will save 11-12 minutes on this section,” said Kaushik Mitra, CPRO, ER.

He said the upgrade will also save time on goods trains, thereby increasing operational efficiency.

Since trains will cross this section at higher speed, there will be less crowding. ER has also planned to construct several road under bridges to replace level crossing gates on this section for greater safety in train operations.
