Calgary, India's campaign at the Canada Open Super 500 badminton tournament ended with Priyanshu Rajawat losing in straight games to France's Alex Lanier in the men's singles semi-finals here.

World number 39 Rajawat lost to number 37 Lanier 17-21, 10-21 in 45 minutes at the Markin MacPhail Centre.

The Indian player had defeated Lanier in their only encounter at the Madrid Spain Masters qualification round last year.

Rajawat, who had defeated Denmark's Anders Antonsen in the quarter-finals, made a positive start and took an early 3-0 lead, but Lanier soon took a 7-4 lead.

Both fought hard and Rajawat gained the lead a few times, but he could not maintain the pressure on his opponent, who lost five consecutive points at 15-16 and eventually ended the first game.

Rajawat's game completely unraveled after the change of sides as Lanier went 8-2 and then 14-3, which proved decisive as the French closed the door for the Indian.
