"Rajasthan is no longer a year-round tourist state. The perception of Rajasthan being a desert state will change for those exploring the state during monsoon," said Dalip Singh Rathore, deputy director of the tourism department.

“One of the top monsoon destinations in the state is Banswara, known as the ‘Cherrapunji’ of Rajasthan and the City of Hundred Islands,” he said.

There is a 'Kalpavriksha' (tree of heaven) in Banswara, which is considered to be one of the 14 gems that came out during the churning of the ocean by the gods and demons.

Tourism department officials said, “There is a religious belief that this tree fulfills the wishes of the people.It is considered a popular pilgrimage site of Banswara and remains a center of attraction for devotees."

He said that in Banswara, Anand Sagar Lake, Abdullah Peer Dargah, Mah Dam, Tripura Sundari Temple and Andeshwar Parshvanathji, a famous Jain temple situated on a small hill in Kushalgarh tehsil with rare inscriptions of the 10th century, are the must-see places in Banswara.

Highlighting other monsoon destinations in the state, tourism officials said Bundi is famous for its architecture, painting and ancient monuments.

Bundi is a fine blend of a distinctive style of painting with elements of Mughal, Deccan and Mewar art styles. He said that Bundi Palace, Chaurasi Khambho Ki Chhatri, Rani-ji-ki-Bawadi and Moti Mahal attract tourists here, Chitrashala also known as Umaid Mahal is among the most wonderful places to visit in Bundi. There is one.Officials said Mount Abu is another monsoon destination known for its steep cliffs, serene lakes, picturesque surroundings and excellent weather.

He said, Dilwara Jain Temple, Nakki Lake, Sun Set Point take you to an ancient world which becomes even more beautiful during monsoon.

Located 265 km from Ahmedabad and 180 km from Mount Abu, the city of Udaipur, also known as the City of Lakes, becomes extremely beautiful during monsoon. After Jaipur, Udaipur receives the highest number of foreign tourists.

An excellent example of architecture, the City Palace was built by Maharana Udai Singh on the banks of Lake Pichola.This palace has also been the residence of the royal family for 23 generations.

Kumbhalgarh is another monsoon destination which houses the famous Kumbhalgarh Fort which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the year 2013.

Rathore said, “The number of foreign tourists in the state increased by 328.52 percent in 2023 compared to 2022. The number of domestic tourists in the state increased by 65.29 percent."
