JODHPUR: A 33-year-old sub-divisional magistrate died at an Ahmedabad hospital after undergoing treatment for 13 days following an allegedly unsuccessful surgery, officials said on Thursday.

Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) officer Priyanka Bishnoi had undergone a hysterectomy at a private hospital in Jodhpur on September 5 after she complained of stomach pain and doctors diagnosed a lump in her uterus.

However, his condition deteriorated on September 6 and his family took him to a hospital in Ahmedabad the next day, an official said.

Bishnoi was treated for 13 days in Ahmedabad and died late on Wednesday night. The family accused doctors at Jodhpur hospital of medical negligence during his surgery, an official said.

He said protests started after the incident and some people, including members of the Bishnoi community, gathered outside AIIMS hospital in Jodhpur and demanded registration of an FIR against the accused doctor and the hospital.

“We explained to them that the police can register a case only after receiving the investigation report from the team constituted as per the government guidelines. “After this, an agreement was reached to take the body and the strike ended around 4.30 pm”, said an officer.

After withdrawing the protest, the family members and people of Bishnoi community took his body and left for Surpura in Phalodi for the last rites.

On the other hand, in view of the anger in the society, security was increased at Jodhpur Hospital and the Director's residence late in the night.

Priyanka Bishnoi is a resident of Bikaner and is a 2016 batch RAS officer. She was serving as Sub-District Magistrate in Jodhpur.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhanjan Lal Shamra also condoled his demise and prayed for peace to his soul and strength to the family.
