New Delhi, Northern Railway has rejected media reports of closure of New Delhi Railway Station for renovation under Amrit Bharat Scheme.

"Regarding the news of closure of New Delhi Railway Station, I have clarified that there is no immediate plan to stop train operations at the station," said Deepak Kumar, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northern Railway.

According to Kumar, several news websites published that the Railways will stop operating all trains from New Delhi station and shift it to other stations in the national capital.

"Such reports are misleading and create unnecessary confusion among the common people," Kumar said.

The Railway Ministry has also issued a clarification in this regard stating that some sections of the media have reported that New Delhi Railway Station will be closed by the end of this year for redevelopment work. This is to declare that New Delhi Railway Station will never be closed.

“It may be noted that when redevelopment of a railway station takes place, some trains are diverted/regulated as per requirement. Information about such changes/regulations of trains is informed well in advance,'' it said.

The ministry launched the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS) in 2023 and so far, 1,321 stations out of a total of 7,000 in various railway zones and divisions across the country have been identified for redevelopment. These include New Delhi station.Although many of these stations are in various stages of development, work on some stations has still not started.

The objective of this scheme is to improve passenger amenities in view of the increasing number of passengers over the last few years.

“Since redevelopment work is going on at many places, there is speculation that New Delhi station will be closed for redevelopment which is incorrect, there is no such plan at present. It has to be redeveloped, but it will be done in such a way that the common people will not face any hardship,” said a railway official.
