BENGALURU: Indian Railways has relaxed distance restrictions in the UT (Unreserved Ticket System) mobile app by removing geo-fencing restrictions for purchasing e-tickets through the UTS mobile app, officials said on Thursday.

He said this move will further streamline the process of purchasing e-tickets through the UT mobile app.

In a statement, the Bengaluru division of South Western Railways (SWR) said the removal of distance restrictions on purchasing unreserved paperless tickets expands convenience and flexibility for passengers by eliminating geographical limitations.

"As per the new system, paperless unreserved travel or platform or seesaw tickets can be purchased from any place more than five meters from the railway station for suburban and non-suburban stations. But tickets will still be purchased on trains and within the station premises. The ban continues.Avoid misuse.

As per the revised norms, the journey should commence within an hour of purchasing the ticket," Trinethra KR, public relations officer, South Western Railway (Bengaluru division), said in the statement.

Earlier, the external distance restriction limit for using the app to buy unreserved paperless tickets was limited to 20 km and 50 km for suburban and non-suburban stations respectively.

According to SWR, this restriction limit has now been removed, allowing rail users to purchase tickets from any location without any distance restrictions.

Another special feature of the UTS mobile app is the three percent bonus offered to users – tickets purchased through R Wallet will get three percent discount on the ticket price. This additional incentive makes the travel experience even more rewarding for passengers.It added, "To make payments even easier, the UTS on mobile app is now integrated with UP apps within the payment aggregator section. This integration streamlines the payment process, allowing passengers to make payments through their favorite UPI app. Using allows transactions to be completed seamlessly."
