New Delhi, The Railway Ministry does not maintain any separate revenue generation records of Vande Bharat trains, the ministry's response to an application under the RTI Act has revealed.

Madhya Pradesh-based Chandra Shekhar Gaur wanted to know how much revenue the Railway Ministry has earned from Vande Bharat trains in the last two years and whether there is any profit or loss on their operation.

"Train-wise portability has not been maintained," the Railway Ministry said in its reply.

Vande Bharat is the country's first semi-high speed train which was flagged off between New Delhi and Varanasi on February 15, 2019 and today 102 Vande Bharat trains are running on 100 routes covering 284 districts in 24 states and union territories. Let's go.

On Monday, railway officials said that more than 2 crore people have traveled by Vande Bharat trains since their first introduction.Officials also informed that the distance covered by Vande Bharat trains in the financial year 2023-24 is equivalent to circling the Earth 310 times.

Gaur expressed surprise and said that while Railways maintains the number of people traveled and distance covered by Vande Bharat trains, it does not maintain the most important information regarding revenue generation.

"Railway officials can calculate the distance covered by Vande Bharat trains in a year equal to the total number of revolutions around the earth, but I do not have the total revenue collected from these trains," Gaur said.

He said, "It is very important for the Railways to maintain a separate record of revenue generation status from Vande Bharat trains as these are India's first semi-high speed new generation trains and its profitability will establish its real popularity."

As far as occupancy is concerned, the Railways, in response to another application under RTI filed in October last year, said the overall utilization of Vande Barat trains is more than 92 per cent, which railway officials call an encouraging figure."Vande Bharat trains are performing very well on some routes, while on some other routes their occupancy is average, but if you look at the overall utilisation, it is quite significant," an official said.
