Mandya (Karnataka), Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday termed the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as a fight between two ideologies - on one hand the Indian Bloc fighting for the Constitution and on the other the BJP, which wants to "destroy the Constitution and democracy". . ,

Highlighting his party's manifesto for the elections, he said that if India Bloc comes to power, it will be a government of common citizens, farmers, laborers and traders.

“This is a fight between two ideologies. On one side is the Congress and India's faction, which fought for the Constitution, gave the country constitution and democracy. Addressing an election rally here, Gandhi said, on the other side is the BJP, which wants to destroy the Constitution and democracy and is installing its people in all the institutions. He said that the BJP government is of 22 to 25 rich people, Congress will give such a government which will work for the common citizens, farmers, laborers and businessmen.

He alleged that the BJP-led government at the Center was running a 'hafta baazi' and described the now-defunct electoral bond scheme as the biggest ever extortion scam in the world.

Gandhi asked people to go to Google and watch Prime Minister Narendra Modi's interview on electoral bonds and how his hands were trembling.

“You must have seen the interview of Narendra Modi. In that interview he talked about electoral bonds. It was an hour long interview where he tried to give clarification on electoral bonds. They said. "Just do one thing. Go to Google and watch the interview, you will see that his hands are shaking because Electora Bond is the biggest corruption ever in India."

“On the street it is known as extortion and hafta baazi. Usually this work is done by small time goons. They threaten and extort money.Electoral bonds are the world's biggest extortion scam ever. This was the reason why the Prime Minister's hands were trembling while explaining it,” Gandhi alleged.

Later addressing a public meeting in Kolar, he said there is unfair representation of Dalits, tribals, OBCs and poor general caste people in bi-corporate and top government jobs, which his party would like to highlight through the caste census.

“We want to X-ray India and present it to the people of India. This is what you have, this is what India has. This is going to be a revolutionary step in Indian politics,” he said.

Gandhi alleged that whenever he mentioned about the caste census, the Prime Minister "fell silent." He said, Narendra Modi should tell the country whether he is in favor of caste census or against it.

This is his first visit to party-ruled Karnataka after the election schedule was announced a month ago.

Interestingly, in both Mandya and Kolar seats, Congress is contesting against JD(S), which is an alliance partner of BJP.While in Mandya there is a direct contest between JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy and Congress' Venkataramane Gowda, popularly known as 'Star Chandru', in Kolar there is a direct contest between Congress's KV Gautam and JD(S)'s M Mallesh Babu.

The Congress had won only one seat in the 2019 general elections in Karnataka, which has a total of 28 constituencies. BJP had won 25 seats, while an independent candidate supported by the party also emerged victorious. JD(S), which at that time contested the elections in alliance with Congress, had won the region.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that the party will win 15 to 20 seats in the upcoming elections in the state.Taking aim at JD(S), Gandhi called it a "partner" of BJP which provides 24-hour assistance to the saffron party.

“I told you during the Assembly elections (2023) that here is a BJP which has got a 'B' team and you trusted it and today it is known to everyone that it is not just a 'B' team, but His companions. They provide 24-hour assistance,” Gandhi said.

Last year in May, the assembly elections saw a triangular contest between Congress, BJP and JD(S).JD(S) had joined the BJP-led NDA in September last year.
