The Congress leader asserted that it belongs to them and pledged to defend their concerns and express their voice within Parliament, while firmly defending the Constitution against any attack.

In the video message, Rahul Gandhi emphasized that the role of the opposition leader transcends mere appointment and assumes the heavy responsibility of upholding the voices of the people and fighting for their interests and rights.

Rahul Gandhi also expressed his sincere gratitude to the people of the country, Congress workers and INDIA block colleagues for entrusting him with their trust.

He emphasized that the position of Leader of the Opposition is not simply a title, but an important responsibility to represent the voices of the people and defend their interests and rights.

The Congress leader said that when someone asked him what it means to be LoP, he replied, "It is your voice and your instrument. Whatever your feelings, your issues, I will raise them on your behalf in the Lok Sabha."

He also stressed the importance of the Constitution as the most powerful safeguard for the poor, the dispossessed, minorities, farmers and workers, vowing to defend it vigorously against any threat and pledging to counter every attack with unwavering determination.

"I stand in solidarity with the Dalits, the poor, the dispossessed, the minorities, the farmers and the workers. We will strongly oppose any efforts by the government to undermine or attack the Constitution, and we will firmly defend it.

"I belong to you and will serve exclusively for your benefit. I will amplify your concerns in Parliament," Rahul Gandhi said in the short video message posted on X.

Earlier on Wednesday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla officially recognized Rahul Gandhi as leader of the opposition, following the Congress' communication to the Lok Sabha Secretariat the previous day.

According to a notification issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat on Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi, leader of the Indian National Congress, has been formally recognized as Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, effective June 9.
