Hathras (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Friday visited families affected by the Hathras stampede and urged Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to provide fair compensation to the victims.

Rahul Gandhi, who reached Hathras early in the morning, met the grieving families of those who lost their lives in the July 2 tragedy at a 'Satsang' religious event of self-styled god Suraj Pal alias 'Bhole Baba' in the village from Fulari. in Hathras of Uttar Pradesh, which claimed 121 lives.

On his way to Hathras, the Congress leader also stopped over at Aligarh to meet the families of the victims. He expressed his condolences and sought to understand his situation.

"It is a sad incident. Many lives have been lost. I am not approaching this from a political perspective but addressing the shortcomings of the administration. The top priority should be to provide maximum compensation to the poor families affected by this tragedy. Request CM Yogi Adityanath to offer compensation with an open heart," he said while speaking to the media.

The Congress MP further said that the deceased's relatives informed him that there was no police presence at the event, which contributed to the chaos. "If there is a delay in compensation, it will not help anyone. I spoke to the families and they told me that there was no police arrangement in place. They are shocked and I wanted to understand their situation," he said. saying.

Congress leader Kunwar Danish Ali, who accompanied Rahul Gandhi during his visit, described the stories of the victims as heartbreaking.

"This is a tragic incident. We left at 5:00 am with Rahul Gandhi. The stories of the victims' families are heartbreaking. Neither the administration has taken responsibility nor is it addressing this issue seriously," Ali said.

A grieving family member recounted the lack of arrangements for the 'Satsang', which led to the stampede. "We informed him (Rahul Gandhi) about the lack of agreement. There were too many people and insufficient management. Rahul Gandhi said that he would raise this issue in Parliament," he said.
