Addressing a rally in Pata Lok, Gandhi said, "This is a fight between two thought processes. On the one hand, the BJP and the Rajya Sabha want to dismantle our Constitution, while on the other, we the people of the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party Protecting it." The Congress leader also blamed the ruling government for socio-economic inequalities that have increased in recent years.

He said, "Over the last decade, the wealth gap has widened significantly. Today, two individuals in India control the wealth equivalent to the wealth of Rs 17,000 crore Indians.He suggested that these inequalities began in Gujarat and later spread across the country.

He also criticized government policies like the Agneepath scheme, increasing privatization which aimed to dismantle the reservation system.

Gandhi said, "You will not find any tribal or Dalit among the country's top anchors and editors. Nor will you see unemployed youth or farmers on television, which showcases the lavish weddings of the rich and Bollywood actors."

Highlighting the current unemployment crisis, he emphasized that such issues are rarely reported, with the voices of 90 per cent of Indians, including farmers, laborers and small business owners, rarely heard in the media.The Congress leader also stressed the importance of the caste census to ensure justice and proper representation for Dalits and tribals, and questioned their absence from important events like the Ram Temple and the inauguration of Parliament.

Patan seat was initially dominated by Congress and later it was challenged by other parties like Swatantra Party and Lok Dal.

A significant moment came in 1989 when the seat was reserved for the Scheduled Caste category, leading to victory for the Janata Dal. This marked a change in the nature of political representation in Patan. BJP won this seat in 1991 and Mahesh Kanodia set the stage for the ongoing contest between BJP and Congress.
