Jhansi (UP), Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of working for billionaires and ignoring farmers and unemployed youth.

Addressing a joint rally near Rani Jhansi Fort here, the alliance partner said if the India Bloc governments come to power, they will work for the youth and farmers.

Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP), both part of the opposition INDI block, are contesting the Lok Sabha elections as allies in Uttar Pradesh. The joint rally was organized to campaign for Congress candidate from Jhansi Pradeep Jai and SP candidate from neighboring state Hamirpur, Ajendra Rajput.

Launching a scathing attack on Modi, Gandhi said the Prime Minister had promised to build 100 'smart cities' in the country but he did nothing in this direction.H further said that the Prime Minister asked people to play thalis to avoid COVID-19 at a time when hundreds of people were dying due to the deadly disease.

Yadav claimed that the trends of the four phases of parliamentary elections are proof that "the graph of the BJP is going down" and the party's defeat is certain.

Gandhi claimed that if the BJP came to power again, it would "tear up" the Constitution, which is the shield of the country's poor.

In the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections, voting will be held on both Hamirpur and Jhansi seats on May 20.

The Congress leader further claimed that the Modi government waived off loans worth Rs 16 lakh crore for 22 "billionaires" (top industrialists), which is equivalent to 24 years of fund allocation under MNREGA.He also said that if the India Bloc comes to power, a list of poor families will be prepared and Rs 1 lakh annually or Rs 8,500 per month will be transferred to the bank account of a woman from each such family.

Gandhi also promised a one-year apprenticeship in government offices and public sectors for unemployed youth and their permanent recruitment thereafter on the basis of merit.

He said that if India Bloc comes to power, it will eliminate the existing five slabs of GST and make it just one slab.

The Congress leader promised to scrap the "Agniveer Scheme" and restore permanent employment in the armed forces with pension provisions.

Yadav also accused the current government of "failing the farmers and youth".He said that the future of the youth is in danger due to continuous leaking of question papers in Uttar Pradesh.
