Chandigarh, Punjab Police busted two more Pakistan-backed drug smuggling gangs and arrested six people and recovered eight kilograms of heroin and three pistols from their possession. Officials gave this information on Saturday.

The development comes a day after the Amritsar Police Commissionerate busted two drug smuggling cartels run by Pakistan-based smugglers, with three drug smugglers arrested after 9.2 kg of heroin was recovered from their possession.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said that on Saturday, two persons on a motorcycle who were going to deliver a consignment of drugs were stopped near a brick kiln in Bachchiwind village.

He said that after arresting both the drug smugglers, identified as Gurbej Singh and Jaskaran Singh, residents of village Manj in Amritsar, the police teams recovered six kilograms of heroin and three pistols, one 9 mm Glock and two pistols from their possession. .32 bore pistol recovered.

In another intelligence-led operation, DGP Yadav said a patrolling team of Amritsar Rural Police arrested four people, including a father and son, while dealing a consignment of two kilograms of heroin near village Noorpur.

Police said that the two who delivered the drug consignment have been identified as Balbir Singh and his son Akashdeep Singh, residents of Kohali, Amritsar.

The other two arrested persons who were to receive the consignment have been identified as Philpus and Jobanjit Singh, both residents of Mulechak village in Amritsar, he said.

Apart from recovering heroin, the police also recovered Rs 30 thousand in cash. The DGP said investigation is ongoing to establish backward and forward links in both the cases.
