CHANDIGARH: Punjab Police have busted an "international" drugs smuggling module in Fazilka district with the arrest of seven people and recovered 5.47 kg of heroin, the state's top official said on Sunday.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said that the arrested accused were in contact with a Pakistan-based smuggler.

During the joint operation with Border Security Force (BSF), police recovered Rs 1.70 lakh in cash and 40 cartridges.

"In a major success against the cross border drug trafficking network, Fazilka Police and BSF, in a joint operation, have busted an international drug trafficking module and recovered 5.4 kg of pure-grade heroin, drugs worth Rs 1.70 lakh. With the seizure, seven drug smugglers have been arrested." Money, 40 cartridges and...'' Yadav said in a post on X.

"Preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused were in contact with Pakistan-based smugglers," he said.

The senior officer said a case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and investigation is underway to establish forward and backward links.
