Chandigarh, Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian on Thursday said the Punjab government will provide more than 22,000 crop residue management machines to the farmers of the state for paddy straw management.

He asked the concerned officials to ensure that the draw for subsidized CRM machines is conducted this month itself and the subsidy is released to the beneficiary farmers by the end of August.

To stop stubble burning, the state government has prepared an action plan of Rs 500 crore. The minister said that CRM machines will be provided to farmers on subsidy during the paddy crop season 2024-25.

“Individual farmers can avail 50 per cent subsidy on these machines, while 80 per cent subsidy is for cooperative societies and panchayats,” he said.

Lauding farmers for responding positively to the direct sown rice (DSR) technology, Khuddiyan said the state has seen a 28 per cent increase in area under this "water conservation" technology compared to last year.

Under DSR technology, sowing has been done in about 2.20 lakh acres, whereas last year sowing was done in 1.72 lakh acres.

Punjab has set a target of bringing 5 lakh acres of land under DSR technology. The state government gives financial assistance of Rs 1,500 per acre to encourage farmers to choose DSR.
