Chandigarh, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday asked AAP leaders to be prepared for the Jalandhar West assembly constituency by-election and work hard to ensure the party's victory.

The by-election for Jalandhar West (SC) assembly constituency will be held on July 10. The by-election was necessitated after the resignation of Sheetal Angural as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA.

Mann asked AAP leaders from Jalandhar to prepare for the by-elections and work hard at the grassroots level to ensure the party's victory.

The Chief Minister held a meeting with AAP leaders from Ludhiana and Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituencies.

AAP leaders discussed the Lok Sabha elections and other issues of both the constituencies.AAP's Ludhiana candidate Ashok Parashar and the party's Jalandhar candidate Pawan Kumar Tinu were also present. Both Parashar and Tinu lost the elections.

During the meeting, Mann asked the party leaders and MLAs to pay special attention to the development work and problems of the people of their area.

Meanwhile, party candidate from Jalandhar Tinu said that despite putting in best efforts in the Lok Sabha by-election, the results were not in the party's favour.

Speaking to reporters, Tinu said that Congress candidate and former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, who won the elections from Jalandhar, is a big face.

“Therefore, people voted for him,” he said, adding that wherever there were shortcomings, they would be rectified.

AAP's Ludhiana candidate Parashar said the Ram Temple issue raised by the BJP has affected his party's prospects in Ludhiana in the Lok Sabha elections. After the Lok Sabha election results, Mann is meeting party leaders and taking feedback from them.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress dealt a blow to the ruling AAP and the opposition BJP and SAD by winning seven of the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab, while two independent candidates registered surprise victories.

In the Lok Sabha elections, AAP won three seats – Hoshiarpur, Anandpur Sahib and Sangrur. Sukhbir Singh Badal-led Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) could win only one seat and the BJP did not get a single seat in the border state.
