CHANDIGARH: As BJP candidates face farmers' protest in Punjab, state party chief Sunil Jakhar on Monday sought the intervention of the Chief Electoral Officer and claimed that the party's candidates are being "forced to withdraw from the campaign". ".

Jakhar expressed apprehension of "possible collusion" of the ruling AA and other parties in creating obstacles and hindrances in the campaigning of BJP candidates.

During the Lok Sabha election campaign, BJP candidates and leaders are facing opposition from farmers.

As part of the protest, farmers ask questions to BJP leaders and show black flags to them if their demands are not met.

A delegation of BJP leaders led by Jakhar on Monday submitted a memorandum to Punjab Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C, claiming that the state machinery has miserably failed to ensure the right to campaign for BJP candidates in the election arena.Jakhar claimed that without providing a similar platform for campaigning, the election process would become meaningless, he was accompanied by party leaders Parminder Bray and Vineet Joshi.

“While BJP has always stood for the rights of farmers by considering talks as the way forward, such uncontrolled protests against BJP candidates, who are being forced to withdraw from the campaign in some parts of Punjab, are a matter of concern. There could be unexpected consequences and untoward incidents like violence and clashes, Jakhar said in the memorandum.

He said, “The possibility of anti-social elements entering and creating havoc under the guise of farmer protests cannot be ruled out. This will make both the election process and the final results unfair.,

Jakhar said that if the election machinery does not intervene to stop this "well-planned conspiracy" against the BJP, it will make both the election process and the final result unfair.

"Free and fair elections and the right to campaign have always been quintessential ingredients in a prosperous democracy. This letter is to bring to your attention and highlight our apprehension of a well-intentioned 'sponsored denial' of the right to campaign to BJP candidates in Punjab. Jakhar said, in the backdrop of deteriorating law and order situation under the present AAP government led by Bhagwant Mann.

Highlighting the ongoing disruptions in Punjab and denial of campaign rights to BJP candidates, he alleged deteriorating law and order situation."It is the responsibility of the Punjab election office, state administrative and police machinery to ensure that BJP candidates get unhindered access to every part of the state to exercise their democratic right to campaign," he said.

However, he said, dozens of incidents in recent times and the recent incident in Patiala, where a farmer died after falling on the road while campaigning for BJP candidate (from Patiala) Preneet Kaur, need immediate attention. .

Jakhar said there was a strong possibility of "collusion" of political parties including AAP, Akali Dal and Congress in scripting such "disruption" for the BJP candidate.

He said the state machinery cannot act as a "conduit" to remove such obstacles.

Jakhar said that these parties are clearly upset with the growing influence of BJP in Punjab. The state BJP chief said, “There is a need to serve notice to the state DGP, Chief Secretary for the lapses which are hampering the BJP's campaign and resulting in increased threat to the security of party candidates in the election field. "

Protests and disruptions during elections cannot happen without prior permission and notice, he said, adding that what was happening at the ground level has increased the BJP's suspicion of a "sponsored link" to the current disruptions.

"We fear a threat to the security of our candidates during the elections. The office of the CEO cannot become a mute spectator to the underlying conspiracy to deny the BJP the right to campaign."

Jakhar said, “BJP has full faith in the election process and the Election Commission teams in the states. We expect the CEO to take immediate intervention keeping in mind the above facts."
