JORHAT (Assam): Congress' deputy leader in the outgoing Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi on Thursday described the parliamentary election results as an "insurance policy" against the BJP's alleged authoritarian politics.

He also claimed that with the BJP failing to win a majority on its own, its NDA allies will support the opposition Bharat faction and vote against the saffron party on sensitive matters in Parliament.

"The people of India have got (in the election results) an insurance policy against the authoritarian politics of the BJP," Gogoi said in an interview.

The three-time Congress MP claimed that the people defeated the BJP with full force in this election.

He said, “Earlier, the BJP with absolute majority was able to pass many bills through Parliament and standing committees. They won't be able to do that anymore, mainly for two reasons."

One reason for this, Gogoi said, is that the BJP will have to keep in mind the sensitivities of its NDA allies.

"The concerns of the people of Andhra Pradesh, the concerns of JD(U) politics will now matter much more. The BJP leadership will have to keep these in mind when forming the government," the Congress leader said.

“The second feature of the insurance policy is the number of Indian alliances. We have such a strong opposition in the Lok Sabha that we can block any bill that violates the spirit of the Constitution, and on controversial issues we will be able to convince some allies." The BJP should vote its conscience and The Constitution must be protected."

Gogoi, who wrested the Jorhat seat in Assam from the ruling BJP by a margin of 1,44,393 votes, said JDU and TDP are not staunch BJP allies.

"They have often been on the opposite side of the BJP and that's why I think people will have a much more different Parliament than they have in the last 10 years," he said.

On BJP's defeat in key seats across the country, Gogoi said that people voted after thinking very carefully about who should be their local representative."This is where the BJP has lost a trick. They were too confident, too arrogant and could not feel the pulse of the people," he said.

He said the Congress was highlighting people's issues and was also being careful in selecting candidates, adding, "I think in many seats it was not the candidate or the party but the people who were fighting on the streets." Contesting elections..

On his victory from Jorhat, from where he contested for the first time after his previous Koliabor constituency was renamed as Kaziranga in the delimitation process, Gogoi said it was a victory for the people of Jorhat.

“I give them all the credit,” he said.We had the highest turnout here.'' He also reminded that his father, late Tarun Gogoi, a three-time former Congress chief minister, had won his first election to the Lok Sabha from here. This constituency.

Gogoi also claimed that the Jorhat campaign has given the Congress a 'blueprint to counter the money and muscle power of the BJP' in the 2026 assembly elections in Assam, as he pointed out that the entire state machinery, including the Chief Minister and several of his ministers, Had campaigned extensively in the constituency and yet, BJP failed to retain the seat.

On his possible role in the new Lok Sabha, Gogoi said he will remain the voice of the North East and highlight the problems, concerns, concerns and aspirations of the people of the region.

“There are still a lot of misconceptions about the North East,” he said.I am sad that the rest of India does not understand how bad the situation is in Manipur. And so, it is my duty to be their voice."

He also rejected the repeated charge against him that he has been more vocal on national issues than on the problems of his constituency or the state.

Terming it as 'false propaganda by the BJP', Gogoi said the three Congress MPs from Assam in the outgoing House, including himself, were always highlighting the state's issues, be it the protests against the CAA, the Assam Accord or There should be ST cases.Status to six communities.
