Dubai: Prominent Indian businessman Ram Buxani, who had been living in the UAE since coming here at the age of 18, died on Sunday at the age of 83.

India's Ambassador to the UAE Sanjay Sudhir took the lead in condoling the demise of the ITL Cosmos Group Chairman, who was also a prominent philanthropist.

“With his demise the community has lost a mentor, an icon and a guide. Mr. Buxani has made the Indian community in the UAE proud. He will remain an inspiration to generations of Indians who call the UAE home.”

Ambassador Sudhir, in his condolence message, also said that Buxani was one of the most prominent Indians in the UAE whose hard work, entrepreneurial spirit and service to the Indian community will always be remembered.

“Her warmth, optimism and passion always inspired me whenever we met. I pray to God to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give his family and friends the strength to bear this sudden and irreparable loss,'' he said.

As soon as the news of Buxani's death was announced, members of the Indian community started sharing memories of the departed soul. Prominent personalities shared photos of Buxani's humble beginnings.

The cause of his death has not been announced, but according to unconfirmed reports, the veteran business leader collapsed in his bathroom.
