Mumbai: Appealing to activist Manoj Jarange to end his hunger strike, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday announced that the state government has started the process of deleting some criminal cases registered during the Maratha community's agitation for reservation last year. Done.

Jarange, who is demanding that the Maratha community be given reservation under the OBC category, had started a fresh hunger strike five days ago. One of their demands is to withdraw the cases registered against Maratha reservation agitators.

Fadnavis told reporters here, "I want to emphasize that the government is taking their fast seriously and the process of withdrawing the cases is underway. The state government has already issued the first notification and we Actively working on it."

Regarding granting Kunbi certificates to Marathas possessing the required documents (which is currently the main demand of Jarange), Fadnavis said he is in talks with OBC leaders.

Kunbi, a farming community, falls in the OBC category. OBC leaders including senior minister Chhagan Bhujbal are opposing Marathas getting the benefit of reservation in OBC category.

Fadnavis said, "I will consult Bhujbal. I will clarify the process of obtaining OBC or Kunbi certificate for those with required documents. We are committed to ensuring fairness for OBCs."

"I urge Manoj Jarange to end his fast. The state has always supported reservation (for Marathas)," the BJP leader said.
