New Delhi: A day after accepting Rahul Gandhi's invitation, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh on Sunday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not yet mustered the courage to accept the invitation for a debate with Rahul Gandhi.

Justice (retd) Madan B Lokur, Justice (retd) Ajit P Shah and N Ram had last week written to former Congress chief Gandhi and the Prime Minister, inviting them on a platform for debate on key Lok Sabha election issues.

"First day of Rahul Gandhi's letter in which he has accepted the invitation to debate the Prime Minister. The man with a 56-inch chest has not yet mustered the courage to accept the invitation," Ramesh said in a post on X.

He also described the interviews being given by the Prime Minister as a 'farce'.

Gandhi on Saturday accepted the invitation for a debate with Modi and also said the country hoped the prime minister would participate in it.

Describing Modi as the "outgoing Prime Minister", Ramesh also alleged that the interviews he was giving to newspapers and TV channels were "planned".

"The outgoing Prime Minister's 'interviews' - to newspapers and TV channels - are a complete farce that the country is facing these days. Every little thing is organized and managed by him. No one knows about him except him. Lies and drama are not natural or natural,” said Ramesh.

He said, "There has been no cross-examination nor has any effort been made to engage him in conversation. It is all pre-planned. There is no other political leader in India, present or past, who has had this kind of interaction with the media." Behaved well."
