New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday conferred 10 Kirti Chakras, including seven posthumously, on personnel of army and paramilitary forces for displaying indomitable courage and extraordinary valor in the line of duty.

Kirti Chakra is India's second highest peacetime bravery award.

President Murmu, who is the Supreme Commander of the armed forces, also presented 26 Shaurya Chakras, including seven posthumously, to personnel of the armed forces, Central Armed Police Forces and state/Union Territory police during a ceremony defense investiture held at Rashtrapati. Bhavan, the Defense Ministry said in a statement.

Sepoy Pawan Kumar of the Grenadiers, 55th Battalion, Rashtriya Rifles; Captain Anshuman Singh of the Army Medical Corps, 26th Battalion, Punjab Regiment; and Havildar Abdul Majid, 9th Battalion, Parachute Regiment (Special Forces), Indian Army were awarded the Kirti Chakra posthumously, according to the list of awardees shared in the statement.

Inspector Dilip Kumar Das, Head Constable Raj Kumar Yadava, Constable Bablu Rabha and Constable Sambhu Roy of 210 CoBRA Battalion, CRPF were also awarded the Kirti Chakra posthumously.

Three staff members, including two senior ranks and a naib subedar, have been conferred with the Kirti Chakra, the ministry said.

Later, Rashtrapati Bhavan also shared pictures from the ceremony on its official X page.

"President Droupadi Murmu conferred Kirti Chakra on Captain Anshuman Singh, Army Medical Corps, 26th Battalion, Punjab Regiment, posthumously. Without regard for his own safety, he exhibited exceptional bravery and determination to rescue many people in a major fire incident," it said.

In another post, he wrote: "President Droupadi Murmu confers Kirti Chakra on Major Digvijay Singh Rawat, 21st Battalion Parachute Regiment (Special Forces). In Manipur, he established an intelligence network that enabled him to map all insurgent groups with base in the Valley. (VBIG) accurately. In one of the operations, he detained three insurgents by physically overpowering them," Rashtrapati Bhavan published.

The bravery awards were given for displaying conspicuous bravery, indomitable courage and extreme devotion to duty, the ministry said.

"I attended the Defense Investiture Ceremony-2024 (Phase-1) at Rashtrapati Bhavan, where Rashtrapati Ji presented the Gallantry Awards. Our nation is proud of the valor and dedication of our brave soldiers. They exemplify the highest ideals of service and sacrifice. Courage will always inspire our people," Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X and also shared photos.

A J&K police constable was also posthumously awarded a Shaurya Chakra, besides six other army personnel.

According to the list, the Shaurya Chakra has also been conferred on a group of personnel of the Army, Air Force, Navy and those providing services under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Shaurya Chakra is India's third highest peacetime bravery award after the Ashok Chakra and Kirti Chakra.
