Liverpool dominated the early stages but missed a golden chance to break the deadlock in the third minute when Luis Diaz headed home Alexander-Arnold's cross from close range.

Trent Alexander-Arnold gave the Reds the lead in the 32nd minute with a superb free-kick which rocketed into the top corner, but the hosts equalized late in the first half through Timothy Castagne in added time.

Liverpool restored their lead early in the second half. Harvey Elliott intercepted Alex Iwobi's poor pass before finding Gravenberch, who broke the high Premier League duck with a 20-yard strike that hit Leno's left post.

The visitors then scored 18 minutes from time with Jota Lachin heading home Cody Gakpo's through ball to score a vital third goal, which was confirmed by VAR after a lengthy investigation for a strict offside call.

The result left Liverpool on top with Arsenal on 74 points from 3 matches – the Gunners claimed top spot on goal difference – with Manchester City third on 73 points after 32 fixtures.
