Gangtok: Prem Singh Tamang was elected the legislature party leader of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), paving the way for him to take oath as the Chief Minister.

All 31 newly elected MLAs were present in the legislature party meeting held at the CM's official residence on Sunday night.

At the meeting, SKM general secretary Arun Upreti proposed Tamang's name as the legislature party leader and union MLA Sonam Lama seconded it. After this, he was unanimously elected leader of the legislature party, a statement said.

It said party leaders congratulated Tamang on his election and pledged to work with dedication under his leadership.

SKM won 31 out of 32 seats in the assembly elections, counting for which took place on Sunday. The opposition SDF gained one seat.
