New Delhi: Skill sector companies on Tuesday asked the government to work on ways to provide a safety net for gig workers, formal opportunities for construction workers and tax exemption for families providing social security deposits on behalf of their domestic workers. Suggested.

In the pre-budget meeting with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on employment and skills, the industry suggested measures to increase employment and improve skills.

CBRE Chairman and CEO Anshuman Magazine said the meeting was on skill development and the government sought suggestions on what could be done on that front.

"One of the areas we really need to focus on is how to skill people," he told reporters.

Sarvesh Aggarwal, CEO of career-tech platform Internshala, said the discussion broadly focused on how to make India the skill capital of the world.

"There were also a number of suggestions on how to create a safety net for gig workers, create global opportunities for college students, and formal opportunities for construction workers," he said.

Sucheta Dutta, ED of industry body Indian Staffing Federation, said domestic workers, who are predominantly women, do not have future security and financial literacy.

"Therefore, we suggested that if the family provides social security deposit on behalf of the domestic worker and in return the family will get 12 per cent exemption in income tax," Data said.

Gayatri Vasudevan, Chief Impact Officer of Sambhav Foundation, said that the entire discussion was on what is necessary for employment and skills.

“How to make better use of NEP (National Education Policy), how can you give standard deduction to middle-class families, so that they can invest in skill sets,” Vasudevan said.
