India had swept the podium places in the last edition, with the country's most famous female triathlete Pragya winning her third consecutive South Asian title, while finishing ninth in the women's overall category.

The Maharashtra pair of Sanjana Joshi and Mansi Mohite, who had won silver and bronze respectively last year behind Gujarat's Pragya, are part of the 13 Indian athletes in the women's elite field.
