Addressing a press conference here, Assam Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anurag Jeol said arrangements will be made from power backup to feeding data on the portal for glitch-free counting of votes and declaration of results for the 14 Lok Sabha seats. . State.

He said that the counting of votes will start at 8 am on June 4 in 152 halls of 52 centers in the state.

“In West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts, there are some problems due to damage caused by heavy rainfall.Surface communication has been disrupted and internet connectivity is also not reliable,” Goyal said.

He said, Assam Power Distribution Corporation Limited (APDCL) has assured to restore uninterrupted power supply at the counting center in Haflong, the headquarters of Dima Hasao.

The CEO said his office has also arranged for additional generators and inverters for power backup.

While the leased internet line in Haflong is still to be restored, arrangements have been made to feed the count data from Diphu to the portal to Dima Hasao, he said.

He said, “BSNL has assured us of restoring the leased internet line, but we have our PLA ready to give us the details from Diphu.,

Dima Hasao falls under Diphu Lok Sabha seat and the official announcement of the results of the constituency will be made from Diphu.

The CEO said that in Karimganj district of Barak Valley, flood water was close to entering the strong room and permission was taken from the Election Commission to move the EVMs and other materials to the upper floor of the building following the necessary protocols.

"Now the water level has gone down and we don't think it will be necessary to move the material," he said.

Another problem in Karimganj could be the movement of election officials, Goyal said, who will have to bring the signed result copy to the CEO's office for personal submission at the Election Commission office by June 6.

“For this, we have discussed with the officials of neighboring Meghalaya.W also arranged for our officials to walk to the landslide areas to bring the papers I needed, on time,” he said.

After the delimitation exercise last year, Lok Sabha elections were held according to the newly delimited constituencies.

The CEO said that the security and counting personnel have been briefed about the arrangements through several training sessions for a smooth counting process.

He said that a total of 5,823 counting staff and 64 general observers are engaged in the process.

Goyal said that till Thursday, 1,28,299 postal ballots had been received.After voting held in three phases, overall voting in the state was 81.56 percent.
