Kolkata: The CBI on Friday conducted raids at various places in West Bengal in search of six fugitives in the post-poll violence case, including some Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders, officials said.

Officials said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) search operation was aimed at finding the whereabouts of six absconding accused, against whom a special court has issued non-bailable warrants.

He said that the court has issued warrants against Buddhadeb Maiti, Pradeep Mandal Debabrata Panda, Tapas Bej, Arjun Kumar Maiti and Bikramjit Das.

The CBI team searched the residences of two TMC leaders in Kathi in West Bengal's East Medinipur district in connection with the ongoing investigation into the murder of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker in the 2021 post-poll violence, an official said. Took.

He said that a team of CBI officers raided the houses of TMC leader Debabrata Panda and block president Nanddulal Maiti of Kathi Block No. 3 in the early hours.

"Panda, Nandadulal's son and 52 others have been named in the FIR registered in connection with the murder of Janmejay Dolui," the CBI official said.

BJP worker Dolui was killed in the violence after the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections.

The officer said 30 people were called for questioning in connection with the case but no one turned up.

"We are raiding places associated with these people. We do not need to interrogate them," he said.
