Dhanbad (Jharkhand) Rats were blamed for destroying 10 kg of cannabis and nine kg of ganja seized and stored at a police station in Jharkhand's Dhanba district.

A lawyer associated with the case said on Sunday that the police informed about the matter to a court in the district.

The police submitted a report to Principal District and Sessions Judge Ra Sharma on Saturday after the court directed the officer-in-charge of Rajgan police station to produce the cannabis and ganja seized six years ago.

The officer said in his report that rats had completely destroyed the narcotics kept in the storeroom of the police station.

The officer said that a report has also been lodged in the police station in this regard.

On December 14, 2018, Rajganj police arrested Shambhu Prasad Aggarwal and his son with 10 kg of cannabis and nine kg of ganja. An FIR was also lodged against him in the police station.

During the hearing, the court had ordered the investigating officer of the case, Jaiprakash Prasad, to present the seized cannabis and ganja in the court on April 6.

Defense counsel in the case Abhay Bhatt told PTI, "Prasad appeared in the court on Saturday with an application from Rajgan police station in-charge, stating that rats destroyed all the seized material." '

Bhatt said it appeared that his client had been implicated in false cases as the police were not able to produce the seized materials.
