The Gilgit-Shandar Expressway project has created an existential crisis for the local people living around the project, reports POGB news organization Pamir Times.

At the time of construction of the expressway in question, construction contractors had blasted a small section of the valley to design the so-called highway.

However, the construction which should have been completed years ago is still not completed and has been drastically cut back by the administration resulting in slow improvement due to poor construction work.Notably, many pieces of rich agricultural land can now be seen submerging in the fast flowing waters of the Ghizer River, affecting lives, livelihoods and safe travel between towns in the PoGB.

Additionally, these submerged parts of land are becoming hotbeds of contaminated water diseases for PoGB endemic areas. Additionally, the Ghizer Pamir Times report claims that landslides of varying scale are now causing cracks and flows in the river bed, as opposed to changing the river's predetermined flow.

Yadgar Mohalla in Skardu city of POGB is another area suffering from the ill effects of water shortage in households.

Local people associated with this area blocked several main roads of the city on Sunday to raise their voice demanding regular water supply in the area.

According to a local who participated in the protest, "Our area has not received an official water supply line since 2007 and now we are forced to protest, as no one cares about our peaceful protest."
